The Expanding Methane Permafrost Conundrum

Methane is exceptionally bad for the atmosphere, temperature rises and climate. Over 20 years its 84 times worse than Carbon Dioxide, over a 100 years 28 times worse the Carbon Dioxide. Permafrost holds millions of tonnes of Methane. As the permafrost melts, largely due to warming caused by human activities significant amounts of this stored methane, (absorbed and stored over millions of years, are being released in a few decades). In context we put about 36 billion man created CO2 tonnes per year into atmosphere About 1400 billion equivalent CO2 tonnes is presently held in Permafrost. Again to keep context this 1400 billion tonnes is 3 times the amount held by all the trees on earth. So it is significant on a planetary level.
This release due to warming is, guess what, causing further and accelerated warming, further methane release and climate change. (Note 2020 saw Siberia be 5 deg C above average). And also an additional and sad consequence is the houses and structures built on Permafrost land to subside effecting over 3 million people).
Not a good situation for the planet or indeed one that gets hardly any publicity! We may have passed a tipping point here - only historians will tell us.
So let get this message out to the Politicians and Oil execs to redouble all
efforts to stop temperature rises.
Lets stop burning ! Change Politicians and Oil Execs Not the Climate.
