Unleash clean hydrogen

Update. Hydrogen is to anyone who looks at the data just not suitable for mainstream energy use. It presently is still over 99.9 produced by steam reforming Methane. It is several times more expensive and pollutes more than all of global aviation. It is difficult to transport and store. It is difficult to convert to useable energy.

Even if you produce it, Hydrogen, for free, it is still likely not viable. A few niche applications may come through such as steel and agro chemicals.

Hydrogen manufacture at the moment creates approximately twice the total pollution of the whole of the UK over a period of a year. Of the the 70 million tonnes or so of Hydrogen presently manufactured approximately 99% is done by taking methane gas, heating it with super heated steam created from burning fossil fuels in a process called Steam Methane Reformation or SMR for short.

This, as well as producing Hydrogen also creates Carbon Monoxide.

In effect a double hit on using the atmosphere as a free sewer - that is fossil fuels to create heat for the steam and the creation of carbon monoxide as a by product.

Be sure that Hydrogen does and will have a part to play in the energy transition and future sustainability.

But lets put first things first, lets educate on the need to create Clean Green Hydrogen from non fossil fuel sources first.

We can do this today using using proven technologies, - green electricity, electrolysis and water - this produces Hydrogen and Oxygen as a by product. This can first meet the existing demand for using hydrogen in fertilisers and the like, before expanding hydrogens using the massively polluting present production methods cause.

Hydrogen Greenwashing dialogue around carbon capture is prominent often misleading even disingenuous. Lets rather just use a clean proven Hydrogen production process and take carbon capture out of the discussion.

Also ask of the green washers argument in the use of carbon capture.. Carbon Capture of what..? the heating during SMR, or the Carbon Monoxide produced as a by product or indeed the pollution in getting Methane in the first place. Also ask how they will measure it.

Carbon capture is expensive and largely unproven over time. Filling underground holes with carbon in spaces often created by harvesting fossil fuels is a great income stream for oil companies and oil states. Not good for the planet.

Green Hydrogen created using Green Electricity and Electrolysis is the clean sustainable option for our Planet. PLEASE SPREAD THESE WORDS.
